So you’re already planning a large wedding: large guest list, large cake, large bridal party, etc. Why not take it to the next level and plan a honeymoon in a big, bustling city? You can stay in the states—exploring venues like Chicago, New York, or Las Vegas—or you can go international. Check with your travel agent on possible honeymoon escapes that often include airfare, lodging, and sometimes even city transportation.

Honeymoon: A bed and breakfast

If your wedding theme is based on more simple elements, like handmade wedding invitations and party favors, you may wish to keep your honeymoon just as understated. A bed and breakfast is a romantic, down-home option. You can find one in just about any city or town, and many offer specials for newlyweds. The first step is deciding where you’d like to visit, be it Vermont, Oregon, or another location, and then start looking for options in that area. Be sure to read reviews from past lodgers.

• Wedding Theme: Ocean Waters

Honeymoon: Fiji

You don’t have to live on an ocean to have a coastal wedding theme. If you live near any body of water, such as a lake or river, check to see if the wedding can be held on the shores or docks, or even at a local riverside café. If not, you can add a seafaring effect with nautical decorations. Then choose your ocean-related apparel, cake, and music. For your honeymoon, head to the beautiful beaches of Fiji. You can stay in a hut right in the Pacific Ocean, against a backdrop of miles of pristine blue water.
